Moscow claims it was “forced to resort to this measure”
The nuclear threat to humanity is again in the foreground. Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced today Monday the suspension of planned US inspections of its military facilities, as part of the START condition (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) – a bilateral agreement between Washington and Moscow to limit strategic arms.
Moscow claims it was “forced to resort to this measure as a result of Washington’s insistence that it will inevitably seek the resumption of inspections under conditions that do not take into account today’s reality,” according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The terms proposed by Washington “create unilateral advantages for the US and effectively deprive the Russian Federation of the right to conduct inspections on American soil,” he adds.
The Kremlin informed the US administration last week that time is running out to negotiate the New START treaty and that if it expires in 2026 without being replaced, global security will be weakened.
