Ukraine: At least 458 civilians killed in Buka during Russian occupation

“On the territory of the Buka community we found and identified 458 bodies, people killed during the Russian military invasion. Of these, 419 were killed by Russian soldiers. Among the dead are 12 children, up to the age of 21,” said the deputy mayor.

Among the dead, 366 are men and 86 are women.

Also, more than 50 bodies were not buried, and they are still in the morgues, she said, adding that five of them could not be identified, in fact the experts could not determine the gender in these cases.

Among the dead are many elderly people, who while alive “were too weak, sick and unable to move to leave their homes,” said a priest who helped bury the residents in the mass grave near the church.

Skarovskaya added that 14 residents were captured, while 10 are considered missing.

At the end of July, the police of the Kyiv region announced that the bodies of 1,448 civilians have been found in the region since the start of the war, of which 216 have not been identified to date.

The director of the police of the Kiev region Andrey Nebitov said that at the moment 300 people are considered missing during the hostilities.

Russian troops had been in the city of Bucha for more than a month. After their retreat at the end of March, local authorities and journalists found dozens of corpses and mass graves in the city.

Satellite photos show that the corpses on the streets of the city existed during the Russian occupation. Russia denies the involvement of the Russian military in the killings of civilians, calling what has come to light “provocation and staging”.
