Biden: Overcoming political divisions in Covid-19 battle

by

US President Joe Biden said today that the fight against Covid-19 “should not” be a matter of political division, during the presentation of a plan aimed at avoiding the possibility of a resurgence of the epidemic with the arrival of winter and Omicron variant.

“I know that Covid-19 was a matter of division in this country” and this “became a partisan issue, which is a sad (…) conclusion. “This should not happen,” he said during his speech.

“As we enter winter and face the challenge of this new variant, it is time, I hope, to try to overcome these divisions,” said the 79-year-old head of state.

Joe Biden is trying to impose vaccination on public and private companies, but he has met with strong opposition from many Republicans and is facing legal action against these restrictive measures.

The US President insisted that the plan he presented today, which “should unite us”, does not include new measures or restrictions.

The White House announced today a series of measures mainly to more strictly frame the arrival of international travelers and to make access to tests and vaccines easier.

In this context, the American president pointed out that his government’s plan in the fight against Covid-19 does not include a lockdown.

Joe Biden added that the United States will step up efforts to vaccinate other citizens, and that experts believe that coronavirus cases will continue to rise in the winter.
