Arrested for “Defamation of the Army” – Russian journalist has been awarded the Vaclav Havel Prize
The journalist was re-arrested by the Russian authorities Marina Ofsianikova. The Russian journalist who became famous when she interrupted a Russian state television newscast while holding a sign anti-invasion of Ukraine was arrested on Wednesday for “defaming the military”, her lawyer said.
“At the moment we are in the investigators. An investigation has been launched” against Ofsianikova for “spreading false information” about the Russian military, lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov said. “He has been arrested,” he clarified.
Russia’s security services raided Ovsyannikova’s home earlier.
According to the lawyer of the independent Russian media human rights project OVD-Info, which is assisting Ovsyannikova, Russian security forces kicked in the door of her home without waiting for her legal representative to arrive.
The journalist has been awarded by the Council of Europe for her anti-war action. He was honored with the award Vaclav Havel for human rights.
The first arrest of Ofsianikova was intervened by Emmanuel Macron for her release.
