Strong gusts of wind swept through the Medusa Festival, a major six-day electronic music festival in the town of Cuguera on Spain’s east coast, south of Valencia.
One person was killed and dozens injured when strong winds in the early hours of this morning caused collapse of part of the stage at a music festival near the Spanish city Valenciathe regional emergency services announced.
Other infrastructure was also damaged when strong gusts of wind swept through the Medusa Festival, a major six-day electronic music festival in the city of Cuguera on Spain’s east coast, south of Valencia.

Of the injured, three have serious injuries and 14 minor injuries, regional emergency services said on Twitter. Regional health authorities later announced that 40 people were being treated.
“We are devastated by what happened this morning,” organizers said in a statement on the festival’s Facebook page.
According to them, “extraordinary” weather conditions caused damage to various infrastructures at the festival site.
“At around four in the morning, unexpected and violently strong winds damaged some areas of the festival, forcing the management to immediately take the decision to evacuate the concert area to guarantee the safety of attendees, workers and artists,” the organizers announced.
The festival is currently suspended, they added.
The national meteorological service AEMET said there were “strong gusts of wind and a sudden rise in temperature” overnight, with winds of 82 km/h recorded at Alicante airport in the Valencia region.
