Flash floods caused by heavy rains have killed at least 29 people and destroyed dozens of houses in eastern Afghanistan, officials said today.

At least 20 people were killed and 50 injured in Parwan, according to Mohammad Nasib Haqqani, a spokesman for the disaster management ministry.
Five people were killed in Kapisa province and four in Nangarhar province, he added.
A hundred people are still missing in Parwan, added Hekmatullah Samim, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
“Crops, dozens of houses and roads were destroyed,” said Mohammad Nasib Haqqani.
Rescue and emergency teams were dispatched to the affected areas.
Dozens of Afghans die every year from torrential rains, mostly in poor rural areas where makeshift houses can easily collapse.
