French President Emmanuel Macron will today have a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky about the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control in southern Ukraine.
The two leaders will communicate “mainly to talk about the situation around the Zaporizhia station,” the French presidency announced.
This station, the largest in Europe, came under the control of Russian troops in early March, at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Since late July, several artillery strikes have been reported at the plant, blamed on each other by the warring parties, raising concerns that a nuclear disaster could be triggered. The issue was discussed last week at the UN Security Council.
