A source to the Sun says they are looking for a home away from central London. For now, however, the couple is enjoying their holidays in Greece.
Boris and Carrie Johnson are on the hunt for a home as they have to leave the official Prime Minister’s Downing Street residence in a few weeks. Notably, Johnson resigned at the beginning of July, after successive scandals. Conservative party members are voting in the coming days to nominate his successor, whose name will be announced on September 5. However, for now the couple is enjoying their holidays in Greece.
The couple moved into No10 Downing Street at the end of 2019, following Johnson’s landslide victory in December’s election. There they “welcomed” their two children two-year-old Wilfred and eight-month-old Romy. Johnson is the fourth Prime Minister of Britain to become a father while occupying Downing Street. He was also criticized for the expensive renovation of the prime minister’s residence, which reportedly cost £112,549 with the help of interior designer Lulu Lytle.
Before moving to Downing Street the couple lived in a mansion in Camberwell, which is currently on the market for £1.6m. According to the Tatler report they are looking for a house in the leafy, trendy suburb of Dulwich Village, in South London with an average selling price of £1.8 million.
A source is quoted as saying to the Sun: “Carrie and Boris are looking for a permanent home away from the glitz of central London. Because of the children a family home with a large garden is essential. This is exactly what Dulwich can offer. The irony is that he wanted to emulate Churchill but ended up following in Thatcher’s footsteps.”
The south-east London neighborhood is also where ousted Tory Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher fled in 1990. She and her husband Dennis lived there for a year, buying a house worth £400,000.
