Jaswand Singh Chail, 20, who has been charged under Britain’s Treason Act, appeared on the grounds of Windsor Castle wearing a hood and mask and holding a crossbow
The man who was arrested armed with a crossbow at Queen Elizabeth II’s residence at Windsor Castle last Christmas had said during his arrest that “I am here to kill the Queen”, a British court heard today.
Jaswand Singh Chail, 20, who has been charged under Britain’s Treason Act, appeared on the grounds of Windsor Castle wearing a hood and mask, the court was told.
A policeman said he looked like a movie hero.
At the time of the incident on December 25, the Queen was at the castle with her son and heir to the throne Prince Charles, his wife Camilla and other close family members.
Following an investigation by the counter-terrorism agency, Childe was charged with threats to kill, possession of an offensive weapon and an offense under section 2 of the Treason Act 1842.
This section details the punishment for someone who “fires or aims a firearm, or discharges or uses an offensive material or weapon, with intent to injure or frighten Her Majesty”.
During a hearing at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Childe, who hails from Southampton in southern England, said he wanted revenge on the establishment.
