Three people were injured in a shooting in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America on Sunday.

Two teenagers, ages 17 and 19, were shot at an amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, and a third was wounded in the shoulder. The teens were taken to a local hospital.

“This was not a shooting inside a theme park,” Gurnee Police Department spokesman Sean Gaylor said Sunday.

“The shooting appears to have been intentional outside of the park rather than a random act.”

The shooting took place around 7:50 p.m. local time from a vehicle that fled the scene. Gurney police said a white sedan entered the theme park parking lot and stopped at the entrance before multiple people got out and began shooting at people in the parking lot.

The suspect was quickly put into a sedan and fled the scene. It is not known how many people were involved in the shooting.

One of the witnesses told NBC News 5 Chicago about the chaotic sight outside the park.

“All of a sudden, everyone started running towards us, yelling that there was a shooter. We turned around and immediately started running in the opposite direction,” a witness said.

“We ran to the bathroom and a man told us to go to the farthest cubicle from all the doors. We found a cubicle with three people inside and someone crying.

Six Flags is reportedly reviewing its security protocols after the shooting.

Multiple layers of precautions have been taken inside and outside the park to protect our guests and team members. We continue to review and improve our protocols daily to ensure the highest level of security.

Gurnee Police continue to investigate the shooting. No suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
