A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl has appeared in court.

Louis Charles Jones, 23, of no fixed address but from Liverpool, was arrested on Saturday morning during a brief hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

He was arrested on Thursday, a day after police were called in the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a girl on Warne Avenue in Droylsden, Tameside.

Greater Manchester Police said the young victim was safely reunited with her family some time later.

After his arrest, Jones was charged with two counts of unauthorized sexual assault and one count of kidnapping.

He was detained until 1 September, when he appeared in Manchester Magistrate’s Court.
