Britain is shocked by the shooting death in her home on Monday night of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Corbel.
In a midday briefing, an officer from the local police department of Merseyside described how around 10 last night an unknown man approached two others who were walking in the driveway of little Olivia’s house.
The stranger pulled out a gun and fired at the two, who started running to escape.
Hearing the gunshots, the nine-year-old’s mother, Cheryl, opened the door to the house to see what was happening.
One of the pursuers, aged 35, broke into the house after seeing the door open, but was followed there by the gunman who caught up and fired blindly through the opening of the door, wounding the mother in the arm and fatally injuring little Olivia, who was at the base of the internal staircase behind the door.
The 35-year-old and the mother are being treated at the hospital where, unfortunately, nine-year-old Olivia caught a cold.
The police officer asked anyone who knows the identity of the attacker not to keep their mouths shut, adding that the victim’s family is “devastated and inconsolable”, as is the local community.
Olivia Pratt-Corbel became the third gunman victim in the Merseyside area in the last week and her death came just days before the 15th anniversary of the death of 11-year-old Rhys Jones in Croxteth, Liverpool, when a 16-year-old local gang member targeted members rival gang.
