A police officer accused of urinating in an off-duty clothing store dressing room said he was “devastated” by the allegations.
PC’s Amelia Shearer is expected to be fired from the Cleveland Police Department after an incident at Urban Outfitters in York last September.
The store paid £492 to have cabinets professionally cleaned and was forced to close nine fitting rooms.
PC Shearer said he went to Vodka Revolution’s “bottomless brunch” with friends, where he drank three cocktails and shared a bottle of Prosecco in 90 minutes.
Then they went to another nacho bar and he had Jack Daniels and Coke before going to Urban Outfitters.
PC Shearer allegedly asked if the store had restrooms before entering the cubicle to urinate.
The officer admitted he was drunk but denied it had happened, saying he never thought such a store would become a public facility.
He said he “went to the locker room to solve the underwear problem.”
After he was told to leave the store, police officers questioned him on a nearby street.
PCShearer said:
The next day, he spoke to Inspector Christian Dua on the phone and told him a “short version” of what happened, without saying that he had gone to the office to take care of the bra.
In claiming power, he lied about what happened that day.
Attorney Olivia Cheka-Dover said the evidence against PC Shearer was “overwhelmingly strong” and that the two vendors who provided it were telling the truth.
Earlier, PC Shearer wept when Inspector Dury praised his performance as a probation officer.
At the hearing he said: He treats members of the public in an extraordinary way.
The meeting has been postponed until tomorrow when the panel will make a decision.
