Rep. Val Demings, former Orlando police chief, has won the Democratic Party’s nomination to run for Florida state senator, Reuters reports citing Edison Research.
With 65% of the vote counted, Demings secured about 85%, handily beating her three opponents in the Democratic primary.
Demings’ opponent will be Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who is considered the favorite in this matchup.
