A spokesman for the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle rail service said: “One train has broken down in the tunnel and we are in the process of moving them onto a new train to return to Folkestone Terminal. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.”
“The tunnel was scary”Sarah Fellows, 37, of Birmingham told PA news agency after the incident
“It was like a ‘disaster’ movie. You were just walking in the abyss without knowing what was going on. We all had to stay under the sea in this long queue.
“There was a woman crying in the tunnel, another woman having a panic attack traveling alone.”
It is noted that the Eurotunnel is a 31-mile rail tunnel connecting Folkestone in Kent to Coquelles in northern France.
