The one under resignation UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson reacted to the announcement of the new big increase in the bills energy for British households by promising “extra cash”.

That extra help, he said, will come in September, after his successor has been named from the party’s internal process with rivals Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak.

“There is a pipeline of fluid coming in the next few months and into the fall and winter. But that money will now clearly be magnified, increased, with additional cash that the government will clearly announce in September,” Mr Johnson said.

Rejecting the request of the opposition and energy providers to freeze the charges, he said that it is not correct to set a limit on the charges because it will also cover the wealthiest households.

This morning the independent energy regulator Ofgem announced a new increase in the ceiling of charges for the energy consumed by British households from October 1 by 80%. The annual bill for a typical electricity and gas user will now be £3,549 from £1,971 today, having already risen by 54% last April.

The outgoing government’s finance minister, Nadeem Zahawi, admitted that inflated energy bills would cause “stress and anxiety for many”, but added that “the reality is that we all need to look at the energy we consume”.

He added that he is working nonstop to find options to support citizens, but insisted that decisions will be made by the next Prime Minister, who will be announced on September 5.
