The economic hardship and the difficult choices that many British households will have to face this winter is revealed by a poll regarding energy accuracy.

Even before the announcement that from October 1 every household will pay £3,549 a year for electricity and gas, the poll carried out on behalf of the opposition Liberal Democrats showed that one in four will not turn on the heating this winter.

Specifically, 23% of respondents intend to spend the coldest months of the year without heating. The percentage rises to 27% for parents with minor children.

70% answer that the heating will turn on less.

23% of respondents say they will use a credit card to pay their energy bills and 11% say they will have to take out a loan to make ends meet. The corresponding percentages rise to 33% and 17% for parents with minor children.

The poll was conducted on a sample of 2,000 adult residents of Britain.

The Lib Dems called it a “national scandal” and called on the candidates to succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister to immediately commit to a series of measures if elected, such as a higher tax on energy company profits.

The staff of the most likely next Prime Minister, Liz Truss, hinted that the current Secretary of State is considering the possibility of reducing VAT from 20% to 15%.
