Ukraine has been talking for two months about a planned counter-attack on Russian-occupied areas of southern Ukraine.
THE Ukraine began the long awaited counterattack in the southern part of the countrythe southern military command announced today.
“Today we launched offensive actions in many directions, including the Kherson peninsula,” state television Suspilne quoted southern administration spokeswoman Natalia Khomeniuk as saying. She confirmed the news a few minutes later during a press briefing.

Khomeniuk said Ukraine’s recent strikes on Russia’s southern supply lines “have unquestionably weakened the enemy” and added that at least ten Russian ammunition storage sites had been hit in the past week.
However, he refused to give more details about the new attack.
“Every military operation needs silence,” he said, adding that Russian forces in the south are “rather strong” and have been strengthened over a long period.
