Cuba: Camilo Guevara March, son of Che Guevara, died

Camilo Guevara March was visiting Caracas when he suffered a “pulmonary embolism which caused a heart attack”.

THE Camilo Guevara Marchson of a revolutionary-guerrilla of Argentine origin Ernesto Che Guevara died Monday in Caracas at age 60 of a heart attack, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel announced today.

“With deep regret, we say goodbye to Camilo, Che’s son and a man who promoted his ideas” (Che), the president announced on his Twitter account.

According to Cuban news agency Prensa latina, Camilo Guevara March was visiting Caracas when he suffered a “pulmonary embolism that caused a heart attack.”

Born in 1962, Camilo was the eldest of four children of Cuban-Argentine guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara, killed by the Bolivian army in 1967, and his Cuban wife Aleida Martz, also a guerrilla. Three other children were born from this marriage: Aleida, Celia and Ernesto.

“Che” had another daughter (Ilda who died in 1995) from a previous marriage to Peruvian Ilda Gadea.

With a degree in Labor Law, Camilo Guevara March was director of the Che Guevara Studies Center in Havana, an institution dedicated to perpetuating his father’s work and thought.
