Texas police said Monday that the search for the suspect is continuing.

The three children were outside their Fort Worth home with several adults around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Nokes.

Jamalien Monroe, 17, and Rayshard Scott, 5, were taken to a local hospital, but both died of their injuries, according to the Tarrant County Coroner’s Office.

Another child, an 18-month-old baby, was also shot outside the residence. The baby suffered minor injuries and survived.

Police are still investigating the shooting and said an unknown number of people drove up to the house and began shooting at a group of people who had gathered in the front yard.

Only three children were injured in the shooting, and police recovered several projectiles from the scene.

Fort Worth’s police chief condemned the violence at a news conference Sunday afternoon, saying authorities will use “every resource necessary” to find those responsible.

“We’re seeing an increase in violent crime across the country and unfortunately here in Fort Worth we’re seeing an undesirable rate of violent crime,” Noakes said. “To have a child killed for sheer insanity adds another level to the tragedy we all go through.”

The police chief said the missing children would not reach the milestone they and their families hoped for, and spoke of the great loss for the families involved.

“This 17-year-old will never graduate. ‘That five-year-old will never graduate from kindergarten,'” he said. “This 18-month-old will be left with physical and emotional scars that can last a lifetime.”

Police still don’t know who was shot or what they were doing outside during the shooting, Noakes said.

Police have not shared a description of the suspect or suspect or their vehicle.
