The Transport Employees Association (TSSA) has announced another train stoppage at the end of next month.
Nine rail companies and Network Rail workers are scheduled to be out for 24 hours starting at noon on Monday, September 26.
The latest actions on wages, job safety and conditions come amid a summer of growing unrest in the UK, with similar strikes taking place across the industry amid inflation and rising energy costs.
The TSSA wants the government to allow the railways to return to the negotiating table with a better offer, calling the rejected 2% offer earlier in the summer “aggressive.”
However, the union said it was still negotiating with Network Rail on a possible deal.
Its leader, Manuel Cortés, said: [transport secretary] Unfortunately, Grant Shaps stopped [department for transport] Prepare your trading company to make significant last deals.
“Frankly, he’s sitting at the bargaining table with our union, or he’s trying to interfere to give the railroad bosses the freedom to bargain with us, like he has in the past.
“Shapps gates are the cause of the current gridlock, and passengers are paying the price for their incompetence and intransigence.”
He continues: Only time will tell if an agreement will be reached to prevent our next attack.
The strike coincides with a Labor Party meeting in Liverpool, where the Labour-owned TSSA is asking MPs to join the picket line.
This may be even more of a headache, as we fired one of the Shadow Cabinet members in line with the picket line, but not the others.
The government asked railway workers to stop striking and come to the negotiating table.
It also had a devastating impact on passengers and the general public.
Many economists and the Bank of England suggest that large, across-the-board wage increases will only increase inflation.
Meanwhile, today is the second day of a postal strike involving 115,000 workers. Two more outings are planned for next week.
