Volodymyr Zelensky warned enemy soldiers occupying strategic Ukrainian cities to “flee or die”.

Explosions were reported in the south of the country after the president announced a mission to retake Kherson on Monday.

In his late-night speeches, he promised that Ukrainian forces would pursue the Russians “to the border.”

“It is time for the Russian army to flee if it wants to survive,” said the leader, on his way home. “Ukraine gets its land back”.

Zelensky added that he would not reveal Kyiv’s ambitious battle plans.

People have also reacted to his words online, urging geolocation experts not to share information about military movements.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday in response to Zelensky that Russia is systematically implementing its plans in Ukraine.

“All of our goals will be achieved,” he said.

Russian forces occupied Kherson in the first days of the invasion, but this is the first time Ukraine has launched a counteroffensive in the area.

According to Telegram, the military carried out 16 attacks in one night against bases, ammunition depots and areas of concentration of Russian personnel.

Vitaly Kim, the governor of the Mykolaiv region, which is on the northern port city front, told Ukrainian television:

“Our troops are working around the clock. The liberation of the Kherson region is imminent.

Images and videos on social media suggest that Ukrainian forces may have recaptured several villages and destroyed Russian targets in the south.

However, he was unable to independently verify reports from the battlefield.

Moscow also said it repulsed the attack, inflicting heavy losses on Kyiv’s troops.

A senior adviser to the president, Oleksiy Arrestovich, said Russian defenses at the Kherson Theater were “broken within hours.”

However, the Russian defense lines to which he refers are unknown, of which there are many.

Officials warned against hopes of a quick victory in the South.

In a separate statement on his Telegram channel, Arrestovich also emphasized that it was a “planned slow operation” to redraw the enemy.

“Certainly many would like to see massive progress on the deal in terms of capturing our troops in a timely manner,” he said.

But that’s not how we fight. And funds are limited. We do not compete for points or speakers.

“We are fighting for the right reasons, and this business takes time and effort, so please be patient.

“This process will not be so fast, but it will end with the installation of Ukrainian flags in all populated areas of Ukraine.
