The women at the orphanage had protested the living conditions and went on hunger strike
A video shows Saudi security forces beating young women and dragging them by the hair in an attack on an orphanage.
As the “Daily Mail” writes, the shocking footage shows the group of men whipping the women with belts, some hitting them with sticks, and stun guns were allegedly used to immobilize them.
Several videos widely shared on social media showed uniformed police and plainclothes officials raiding the orphanage in the town of Khamis Mushait.
A local news outlet reported that the women at the orphanage had protested the living conditions and gone on hunger strike.
At the beginning of the video the women are seen running away from the men and screaming, before one of them is grabbed and thrown to the ground. The women try to escape from the security forces, but are pulled back.
The officers then drag a girl to the ground before handcuffing her and hitting her with a belt.
Saudi activists said the video highlighted the violence women face at the hands of security forces in the country.
The government of the southern province of Asir said in a statement early Wednesday that it would set up a commission to investigate the incident, without giving details.
Orphanages in Saudi Arabia are overseen by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
