Republican US Deputy wishes Merry Christmas in Gun Photo

by

The American deputy Thomas Massie published this Saturday (4) a photo of him with what appears to be his family in front of a Christmas tree and with everyone holding different types of guns. “Merry Christmas! PS: Santa Claus, please bring ammo,” he wrote on Twitter.

The publication came three days after Ethan Crumbley, 15, killed four people while carrying out a gunshot attack on a school in Oxford, Michigan. He will face charges of terrorism, murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm as an adult in court, while his parents were arrested and indicted on four counts of manslaughter (not intended to kill).

In the photo of Massie, who represents a solidly Republican district of Kentucky, and the other six people hold guns that look like an M60 machine gun, an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, and a Thompson gun. Some semi-automatic are produced so that they look like automatic weapons.

Under US law, items such as machine guns are restricted to military personnel, security forces agents, and civilians with special licenses for weapons produced before May 1986.

Democratic Representative John Yarmuth condemned the publication of his Kentucky countryman. “I’m old enough to remember Republicans screaming that it was insensitive to try to protect people from gun violence after a tragedy,” he wrote on Twitter. “I promise not everyone in Kentucky is a heartless idiot.”

Massie’s campaign manager Jonathan van Norman did not respond to a request for comment made by the Reuters news agency.
