A bee stung a man about 20,000 times, including 30 while cutting tree branches.
Austin Bellamy, 20, had a terrifying encounter while helping a friend on Saturday.
“He was working wood for a friend, cutting lemons in a killer bee hive in Africa, got stung over 20,000 times and is currently in hospital on a ventilator fighting for his life.” GoFundMe page created earlier this week.
In an update Thursday, Carter wrote that her son has been hospitalized with respiratory problems.
“His oxygen keeps getting low and he still can’t walk properly and he’s still shaking a lot, but a lot of the swelling has gone down considerably.
Mrs Carter said she was devastated when she found out what had happened to her son.
“It was too much for me,” he said.
“Apparently, he was wearing a black blanket from head to neck to arms. She had bees inside and she sucked them up until Sunday morning.
Despite tens of thousands of bites, Bellamy is expected to recover.
His grandmother Phyllis Edwards and his uncle Dustin Edwards witnessed the horrific incident.
“I was going to go up the ladder to Austin. But it was surrounded by bees so I couldn’t reach it,” Phyllis told WXIX.
“He was trying to get dressed, but he couldn’t. He cried. Help! Help!” and no one helped him.
Members of the Ripley Fire Department rescued Bellamy and took him to the hospital. He woke up Wednesday night from a medically induced coma, according to WXIX.
The GoFundMe page has raised more than $14,000 as of Thursday night.
