A woman was punched in the face by a police officer on the streets of New York City.

A violent confrontation broke out in Harlem where a group of police officers gathered outside a residence.

In a video shared on social media, a woman can be seen running into the crowd. The officer then punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground.

It is not clear if she lost consciousness, but the police officers quickly picked her up and handcuffed her.

New York City police said officers were trying to arrest a man in connection with an attempted murder on West 136th Street near Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, NBC 4 reported.

“During the police arrests, multiple individuals stepped in and physically assaulted multiple officers,” police told TMZ. “One officer sustained a minor head injury.

The woman was identified as Tamani Krum, 19, a hairdresser.

After the incident, the two women were charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration. One of them was accused of harassment and intimidation. A third woman was accused of spitting on a police officer.

Crumb was initially arrested on multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, and later charged with obstruction.

“Officers attempted to arrest the individual as the fight ensued and a crowd formed around him,” the police department said.

“The individual was carrying an illegally loaded Polymer 80 semi-automatic rifle known as a ‘Ghost Gun’ on his waistband. NYPD officers have removed another illegal firearm from the streets of our city.

According to the police station, the officer tried to defend himself against Klum with an “open hand”.

No disciplinary action was taken against the police officers.
