US police have issued an evacuation order as the hijacked plane could crash into a supermarket.

Images posted on social media show the plane flying over the Mississippi.

The Tupelo Police Department said it was told the aircraft had lost control around 5 a.m.

The pilot said he was “deliberately threatening to hit Walmart.” [sic] I am at Westmain and have been in contact to speak with them.

At 08:35 BST, the pilot was flying north over Union County, north of Tupelo, making a random turn.

“Local, state and federal authorities continue to monitor this dangerous situation,” police said.

An earlier statement read: “Citizens are asked to avoid the area until the situation is clarified.

“The danger zone is much wider than the Tupelo due to the maneuverability of this type of aircraft.”
