Two members of the IAEA are expected to remain at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, was seized by Russian troops in March, but is still operating with Ukrainian engineers and supplying electricity to the Ukrainian grid.

Two members of the International Atomic Energy Agency mission are expected to remain at the Russian-held Zaporizhia nuclear plant “on a permanent basis,” Ukraine’s state-run nuclear power company Energoatom announced.

The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest, it was seized by Russian troops in March but still operates with Ukrainian engineers and supplies electricity to the Ukrainian grid.

“Today (…) four of the six representatives of the Agency’s inspection team completed their work at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant and left it,” Energoatom said in a statement on Telegram.

“It is expected that two specialists will continue to work at the (nuclear plant) on a permanent basis,” he added.

Russian-appointed local official Vladimir Rogov confirmed in a radio interview today that two observers will remain at the station.

“The members of the IAEA mission have now left Zaporizhia, while for now two people have remained as observers,” he explained.
