At least 35 civilians were killed and 37 others injured on Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated as it passed through a supply convoy in northern Burkina Faso between Djibouti and Burzaga, the Sahel governor said.

“One of the vehicles, carrying civilians (…) exploded when it came into contact with an improvised explosive device. The provisional tally at 5:00 p.m. (local time; 8:00 p.m. Greek time) was 35 dead and 37 injured, all of them civilians,” explained the statement released by the regional governor.

Such convoys, which move under military escort, supply northern cities under siege by jihadist groups. This one had departed from the capital Ouagadougou.
