A man accused of murdering three brothers appears in court in Dublin.

Andy Cash of Tarato, 24, has been charged with the murder of 18-year-old Lisa Cash and her 8-year-old twin brothers and sisters, Christie and Chelsea Curie, at their home on Sunday.

He appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara at a special hearing in criminal court on Monday.

Garda Robert Whitt told the court at 7:51 p.m. Monday that he had been charged with three counts of murder and had received a warning. He said Cash responded to each accusation “without comment.”

Cash’s attorneys demanded their client be placed in “solitary confinement,” but the judge said it was up to the guards.

The defendant spoke during a brief session.

Judge McNamara referred him to the Clover Hill Cash Depository to appear in court via video link at 10 a.m. Friday.

Bail applications for murder charges can only be granted by the High Court, he said.

Earlier, a memorial service was held in Talat to commemorate the brothers, and a large number of people gathered in front of their homes to mourn with their families and friends.

As people sang songs, balloons were released and candles were lit along the outside walls of houses.

Dozens of bouquets, teddy bears and candles line the walls, and there are three photos of Christie and Chelsea at their first communion.

Taos Chief Michael Martin expressed his “deepest condolences” to the grieving families, saying the “horrible tragedy” had “deeply shocked and saddened the entire nation.”

Drew Harris, Ireland’s Garda Commissioner, described the death as “horrific and traumatic” and “one of the worst incidents I have ever heard of or come across in my work”, he added.

He said: “It was the most horrific and traumatic incident resulting in the deaths of two children and a teenager. With all due respect, the most horrific incident.”

The commissioner appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time and who might have information that could help the Gardai investigation.
