Moscow and Kyiv accused each other today of risking destruction by bombing its nuclear power plant Zaporizhia in southern Ukraine while a report by the United Nations Atomic Energy Organization is awaited on the status of the station in question.

The factory, operated by Ukrainian technicians, was seized by Russian forces in early March, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other for weeks of endangering his security – and the security of Europe – by bombing the facility and surrounding areas. But so far no independent third party has been able to clarify who caused what damage to the station.

It’s unclear if that will change later today, when the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) release a report based on a fact-finding mission to the station, which is expected to detail the damage.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi led the mission last week, and two IAEA staff members remain at the facility monitoring the situation. Grossi is expected to brief the UN Security Council in New York later today on his findings.

It is not clear, however, whether Grossi will blame either side.

Russia today blamed Ukrainian troops that they bombed Zaporizhia yesterday, Monday.

The Russian diplomatic mission to international organizations in Vienna, where the IAEA is based, told Telegram that three Ukrainian shells fell near the facility’s fuel storage unit, solid radioactive waste storage facilities and near one of the power plants.

To back up her claim, she released photos of where the missiles hit.

Also according to a post of the Russian Ministry of Defense on Telegram, “in the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian armed forces fired 15 times with artillery fire against the city of Ergondar and the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Anyway “the radioactivity at the Zaporizhia station facility is within specifications”, the ministry added.

The Reuters states that he was unable to confirm the claims of either side.
