Liz Truss officially becomes the leader of the Conservative Party and the new Prime Minister after defeating Rishi Sunak in the leadership elections.

In total, Truss received 81,326 votes from the Conservatives, while Sunak received 60,399 votes.

The results were announced by Sir Graham Brady on the Monday after the competition began in July.

10 Downing Street has been the seat of the British Prime Minister since 1735, and the most important decisions affecting Britain have been made outside its doors for the last 275 years.

Technically, the prime minister could live at number 10, but there aren’t many options for doing so.

The number 10 has three main functions. It is the official residence and official residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and is also where the Prime Minister receives the President of the United States and other world leaders from the hands of Her Majesty the Queen.

However, Boris Johnson, along with his predecessors Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Theresa May, and David Cameron, chose residence number 11 due to the larger size of the living space.

Number 11 is usually the official residence of the Secretary of the Treasury.

Where else are Liz Truss features?

According to his website, Truss and his family live in a three-bedroom townhouse in Thetford, a market town and civil parish in Norfolk.

They have lived there since about 2010, and the location has allowed it to be close to the South West Norfolk constituency, where he has served as a Member of Parliament for the last 12 years.

He divides his time between his London mansion and Chevening House, a country house between Biggin Hill and Seven Oaks in Kent.

She and Dominic Raab have shared access to the facility since he became foreign minister in 2021.
