“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the Palace’s statement said.

Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth, who died earlier today at Balmolar Castle in Scotland, is the King of Great Britain.

Buckingham clarified the above in the relevant notice announcing the death of the Monarch.

Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, has died tonight at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace has announced. “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the Palace’s statement said.

Her eldest son, 73-year-old Charles, automatically becomes king.

Members of the royal family had rushed to Elizabeth’s side at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after doctors earlier expressed concern about her health.

The BBC announced the death of Queen Elizabeth and broadcast the national anthem.

THE Elizabeth-Alexandra-Maryas was her full name, was born on 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London and baptized on 29 May of the same year in the private chapel of Buckingham Palace.

The little princess was first in line for the throne when her uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated on December 11, 1936, and her father became king as George V. Elizabeth was then 10 years old.

During World War II she served in a women’s auxiliary and trained as a driver and car mechanic.

On 20 November 1947 she married Prince Philip Mountbaden of Greece at Westminster Abbey, London. They had four children: Charles (b. 1948), Anna (b. 1950), Andrew (b. 1960) and Edward (b. 1964). Their marriage lasted 73 years, until Philip’s death in April 2021, aged 99.

Elizabeth ascended the throne when her father died on 6 February 1952. She was on an official visit to Kenya. He was crowned on 2 June 1953 in Westminster Abbey. This was the first televised coronation.

When he took over at the age of 25, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Harry Truman were leaders of the Soviet Union, China and the USA. British Prime Minister was Winston Churchill.

During her reign she worked with 15 prime ministers. He also met with all US presidents (14 in all) except Lyndon Johnson. He visited dozens of countries (USA, India, Pakistan, Cyprus, Nepal, Iran, Ghana, Canada, Australia, Yugoslavia, China…) and met with countless political and religious leaders, including five pontiffs.

On 9 September 2015, she became the longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, surpassing the “record” of her great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, who remained on the throne for 63 years, 7 months, 2 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes.

Elizabeth remained until her death the ruler of 15 countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Jamaica, Antigua and Bermuda, Grenada, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, St. Kitts and Nevis and others .

She celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, 70 years since her accession to the throne, on February 6, 2022.
