Kyiv wants the UN General Assembly to approve a resolution that would allow the creation of an international mechanism to claim war reparations

Ukraine is seeking to receive more than $300 billion in war reparations from Russia, Ukrainian Justice Minister Denis Maliuska said.

Kyiv wants the UN General Assembly to approve a resolution that would allow the creation of an international mechanism to claim war reparations, Mr. Maliuska said in an interview with the Funke Group media published today.

Although the value of the damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure due to the invasion of the Russian army is estimated to be much higher than the amount quoted by the Ukrainian justice minister, the figure of $300 billion is the total of the resources of Russia’s central bank which are stationed in the G7 states pledged as part of Western sanctions against Moscow following the February 24 invasion.

In addition to asking for frozen Russian state funds, Mr. Maliuska said Kyiv would seek to hand over frozen funds and frozen assets abroad of Russian state-owned companies and Russian oligarchs.
