Algeria: Algeria is offering $ 100 million in aid to the Palestinians

Algerian President Abdelmajid Teboun announced today $ 100 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority, during a visit to Algeria by President Mahmoud Abbas.

“In accordance with the relevant Arab League resolutions, the Algerian state has decided to offer (to Mahmoud Abbas) this check for an Algerian financial contribution of $ 100 million,” Teboun told a joint news conference with the Palestinian Authority.

Teboun also said that Algeria wanted to put the Palestinian issue at the center of the Arab summit expected to be held in March.

He also announced, according to Algerian media, that his country planned to host a conference “soon” attended by “all Palestinian factions”, an initiative aimed at promoting reconciliation between Fatah, Abbas’s party, and Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007.

Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Algeria comes less than two weeks after Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gandz’s visit to Morocco, which was sealed by a security co-operation agreement with the Alevi kingdom that angered Algerians and .
