The second tallest roller coaster in the world closed for good a year after a woman was seriously injured while riding it.

On Tuesday, Sandusky, Ohio’s Cedar Point amusement park shared a “huge update” for its 420-foot-tall Top Thrill dragster ride.

“After 19 seasons in which 18 million riders experienced the world’s first Strata Coaster, the most exciting dragster you know is retiring.” On twitter Cedar Point spokesman Tony Clark.

But Cedar Point’s legacy of travel innovation lives on. Our team is passionate about creating new and refreshed travel experiences.

In August 2021, a woman was injured while queuing after a metal object fell from a Top Thrill dragster.

The statement did not provide additional details, adding that they would be released at a later date.

The Top Thrill dragster was famous for surpassing its height and reaching 120 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

It has been out of service since Aug. 15, 2021, when a piece of metal came off the train while it was on board and struck 45-year-old Rachel Hawes as she waited in line. Hawes was taken to hospital with serious brain injuries.

The beach has not reopened even though a state investigation in February found the incident to be an accident and Cedar Point was not responsible, saying the amusement park did not violate state law.

The Cedar Point website once said of the Top Thrill Dragster: It’s no joke to say that this high-octane speedster knows 20 horsepower all the way to the checkered flag.

That description has since been replaced by a closing statement.

Cedar Point made headlines last month when a couple was arrested for having sex while riding a giant Ferris wheel. A 24-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman initially denied witness claims but later admitted to having sex on a 145-foot Ferris wheel.
