The royal family’s period of mourning for Elizabeth’s death was determined by King Charles.

For seven days after the day of her funeral Queen Elizabeth official mourning for the royal family will continue, as announced by Buckingham Palace following the decision of the new King Charles III.

The date of the funeral will be determined “in due course,” the statement added.

Royal mourning concerns members of the royal family, staff of the royal household and representatives of the royal household on official duties, as well as members of the armed forces performing ceremonial duties dictated by royal protocol.

Flags at royal residences will continue to fly at half-mast until the morning after the end of royal mourning.

The length of national mourning for UK citizens will be set by the government.

The Palace also designated specific areas in front of the palaces and royal residences where citizens can leave bouquets and flowers, due to the crowds that have already poured in since Thursday night.
