Church bells rang out across the UK today in honor of the Queen, who died on Thursday aged 96 after 70 years on the throne.

The bells of St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London, as well as those of Windsor Tower, began tolling while the new King Charles III was on his way to London from his Balmoral residence in Scotland.

Elizabeth’s funeral at Westminster Abbey is expected to take place around ten days after her death, around September 19. He will then be buried in Windsor Castle Chapel.
