The British monarchy confirmed this Saturday (10) that the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place on the 19th, a Monday, in the morning in London – from 7 am, in Brasília time. The date has been declared a public holiday in the UK.

The coffin is due to leave Balmoral Castle, Scotland, bound for Edinburgh, this Sunday (11). In the Scottish capital he must stay at Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the royal family, and then be flown to London on Tuesday, where the next day he will be placed at Westminster Abbey to receive a series of tributes until the funeral. .

The officials who explained the protocols for the coming days said they will carry out their duties “with a heavier heart than ever, but with the necessary firmness to guarantee a farewell worthy of one of the defining figures of our time”.

In the announcement, details of the situation in Balmoral were also passed. Elizabeth’s body, who died last Thursday at the site, lies in an oak coffin covered in flowers in the castle’s ballroom.

Symbol of the monarchy around the world, Elizabeth II held the throne for seven decades and passed away peacefully, according to the official statement, on Thursday (8), at the age of 96, at Balmoral Castle. On Tuesday (6), in her last appearance, she swore in the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

The death started a series of official protocols and ceremonies of the monarchy, which include the queen’s funeral and the officialization of the new king. Events will follow, in the UK and associated states such as Canada, Australia and Jamaica, for the next few days.

This Saturday morning, Charles III, 73, was proclaimed king in a ceremony at Saint James’ Palace in London. As in the first official speech on the throne, this Friday (9), the monarch aimed to honor the legacy of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, pointing to her as her great inspiration.

The coffin with the body of Queen Elizabeth II will be transported from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to Edinburgh, the capital of the country. The journey, by car, should take approximately six hours. There, the coffin will be taken to Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the royal family.

Monday (12)

The queen’s body will be taken in procession to St Giles’ Cathedral, also in Edinburgh. There will be a ceremony at the venue, and the monarch’s body must be exposed to the public for 24 hours.

Tuesday (13)

from 1 pm (from Brasilia) – A hearse will take the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II to Edinburgh Airport. From there, you will be transported on a 55-minute flight to London, England. Honor guards will greet your departure from Scotland and your arrival in England.

In the English capital, the Queen’s body will be taken to Buckingham Palace, where it will be placed in the center of a hall. Prayers will be held there with the presence of members of the royal family.

Wednesday (14)

The Imperial State Crown, one of the greatest symbols of the British monarchy, and a wreath will be placed on the coffin.

10:22 am (from Brasilia) – A procession with members of the royal family will carry the coffin with the queen’s body from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster.

11 am (from Brasilia) – The coffin with the queen’s body is due to arrive at the Palace of Westminster, where it will be received by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Monday (19)

The coffin with the queen’s body will be transported from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey, where the funeral will take place.
