The Commerce Department intends to issue new regulations based on restrictions announced in letters earlier in 2022 to three US companies (KLA Corp, Lam Research Corp and Applied Materials Inc), according to the same sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The draft of the new regulations has not previously been made public by the media.

The companies have publicly admitted to receiving the letters, and according to their content, the mentioned US companies are prohibited from exporting microcircuit production equipment to Chinese industries that produce sophisticated semiconductors with processes (sub-14 nanometer processes) unless the sellers have special licenses from the US Department of Commerce.

The regulations would also codify restrictions on Commerce Department letters sent to Nvidia Corp and Advanced Micro Devices last month instructing them to end exports to China of several artificial intelligence chips used in computers unless obtain special permits.
