Moscow accuses the US of trying to block Russia’s full participation in the General Assembly by delaying entry visas to Russians

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and members of the Russian delegation have been granted entry visas to attend the United Nations General Assembly, according to a Russian news agency citing the Foreign Ministry.

Russia has been accusing the United States for weeks of not giving members of the Russian delegation entry visas to participate in the 73rd General Assembly, which begins its work today in New York.

“Entry visas were issued today to Lavrov and some of those who will accompany him,” the Interfax news agency reported, citing the foreign ministry.

Moscow accuses the US of trying to block Russia’s full participation in the General Assembly by delaying entry visas to Russians. High-level meetings of the GA begin next week.

The Kremlin said today that the US was “breaching its obligations” by not issuing visas to Russia’s entire delegation and said it was taking steps to hold both the UN and the US accountable for the situation.
