The King’s awkward moment as his pen dripped ink while trying to sign a book towards the end of his visit.
The awkward moment King Charles hands his aides an annoyed ink-dripping pen hours after the new monarch was warmly ’embraced’ by the people of Belfast is doing the rounds of the internet.
King Charles, seated inside the royal residence of Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland, appeared agitated as ink dripped from his pen as he attempted to sign a book towards the end of his visit.
King Charles complained about the quill he used to sign his name, announcing that he “can’t stand the bloody thing” as he appeared to try to get the ink off his fingers by rubbing them.
The royal consort later reported that the ink was running and asked for a replacement while the King hurried out of the room flanked by aides.
The faulty pen was quickly removed and replaced by visibly flustered assistants before Camilla sat down and she signed the book from inside the historic home.
It is noted that this is not the first time that such an incident has happened, as the King had expressed his annoyance again when he had asked one of his assistants to remove an ink pot.
