The land of the Rising Sun has one of the highest life expectancies in the world and not a few Japanese have been recognized as the oldest people in the world.

Mikizo Ueda, the Japanese man who held the title of oldest man in the Land of the Rising Sun, has died at the age of 112, Nara city authorities announced on Tuesday.

The centenarian resident of Nara was born in May 1910. Following Ueda’s death on September 9, Japan’s health ministry is expected to announce in the coming days who is Japan’s oldest living man.

The land of the Rising Sun has one of the highest life expectancies in the world and not a few Japanese have been recognized as the oldest people in the world.

Kane Tanaka, who was listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest person, died on April 19 in Fukuoka Prefecture at the age of 119.

After her death, Japan’s oldest resident is now Fusa Tatsumi, 115, from Osaka.
