The right-wing bloc is led by Ulf Kristerson of the Moderate Party, but the Sweden Democrats received the largest percentage of votes.
The final results from the parliamentary elections held in Sweden on September 11 confirmed that the right-wing bloc narrowly won a majority with 176 seats compared to 173 for the outgoing left.
The participation rate in the elections was 84%.
The right-wing bloc is led by Ulf Christerson of the Moderate Party.
However, the largest share of votes in his right-wing bloc, 20.54%, and 73 seats went to the Sweden Democrats.
Christerson’s decision to ally with the far-right Democrats has been controversial. For years no party agreed to cooperate with them.
Overall, the party with the most votes was the Social Democrats with 30.33% and 107 seats.
But this was not enough to win the election. Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson has already announced plans to resign in the wake of the defeat.
What form the next Swedish government will take will be clearer tomorrow Monday when talks on which party will form a government begin.
Ulf Kristerson is trying to ensure that the four parties in his coalition will be able to form a government.
Anderson will lead a transitional government until the next one can take office.
