A never-before-seen portrait of Queen Elizabeth has been released by Buckingham Palace.

Taken by photographer Ranald Mackechnie in May ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the image shows the Queen dressed in blue at Windsor Castle.

The portrait of her beaming into the lens was released as Charles’s queen consort, Camilla, spoke about Queen Elizabeth in an interview on Sunday night, noting her “beautiful blue eyes” and “unforgettable smile”.

As well as her beloved pearl necklace, the Queen is wearing brooches in the portrait, a gift from her father for her 18th birthday in 1944.

Mr Mackechnie also took the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee portrait, which was released in June to mark the start of national celebrations for her 70-year reign, the longest reign of any British monarch.
