Kremlin against Pelosi: The “loud” statements about Armenia – Azerbaijan do not help

by

Pelosi praised democracy in Armenia and criticized what she called the “illegal” attacks by Azerbaijan.

The Kremlin stated today that the “sound announcements” by the speaker of the US House of Representatives on the causes of the border dispute between Armenia and to Azerbaijan they are not likely to help stabilize the situation.

In a teleconference with journalists, the representative of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said a “quiet and professional approach” to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict would bear fruit.

Peskov said: “Anything… done with a quiet and professional approach can contribute to the normalization of relations, stabilization of the situation at the border, all this can be welcome. Can such projected actions and statements really contribute to the normalization of the situation? Let’s wait to see”.

THE Pelosi visited Armenia this weekend in an unprecedented sign of US support for the country, which has been embroiled in more than three decades of conflict with neighboring Azerbaijan over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

During her visit, Pelosi praised democracy in Armenia and criticized what she called “unlawful” attacks by Azerbaijan, after clashes erupted along the two countries’ border last week that killed at least 200 people.

The Kremlin spokesman also stated that some remain unresolved issues in the negotiations on a return to the agreement on the Iran’s nuclear program.

Russia, increasingly a close ally of Tehran, was one of the signatories of the original 2015 nuclear deal, along with China, France, Germany, Britain and the United States.

The Kremlin also stated that it welcomes the fact that the Ukraine takes “dominant positions” on many issues with the European Union, amid a standoff between Budapest and Brussels over €7.5 billion in funding.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is monitoring developments related to it Hungaryafter the EU Commission recommended at the weekend that part of the funding to Budapest be suspended due to corruption in the country.
