Truss and Kishida agreed on the importance of cooperation between democracies, including within international institutions such as the G7, to limit threats to the economy and security from “authoritarian regimes”.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss condemned Beijing’s provocations over Taiwan during a meeting with her Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to a Downing Street spokesman.

“The two leaders decided to work together to address the strategic threat posed by China,” it said.

Truss and Kishida agreed on the importance of cooperation between democracies, including within international institutions such as the G7, to limit threats to the economy and security from “authoritarian regimes,” the statement said.

Britain’s prime minister, who earlier met French President Emmanuel Macron in New York, plans – on her first trip abroad since taking office – to pledge billions of pounds in additional military aid to Ukraine to defend against the Russian invaders.
