White House on Putin: Irresponsible rhetoric from a nuclear power – We’re watching closely

“This is irresponsible rhetoric from a nuclear power,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in an interview with ABC.

The United States “takes seriously” Vladimir Putin’s threat to use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine, a White House spokesman said today, announcing that “the consequences will be severe” if he follows through.

“This is irresponsible rhetoric from a nuclear power,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in an interview with ABC.

“We monitor as best we can their strategic arrangement so that we are able to change ours if the need arises. At the moment, nothing dictates that there is a need,” he added.

When asked about the mobilization of 300,000 reservists announced by Putin, John Kirby replied: “We are waiting for it.”

“This shows unequivocally that he is struggling in the military field,” the former admiral added. Putin “has problems with desertions, forcing the wounded back into battle, so there is clearly a recruitment problem,” he explained.

The Russian president earlier announced the “partial mobilization” of 300,000 Russian reservists, paving the way for an escalation of the war in Ukraine. He also said he was ready to use “all means” in his arsenal against the West. “It’s not a bluff,” he insisted, implying that he is prepared to use nuclear weapons.
