New strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Mexico

No tsunami warning has been issued, according to the US National Weather Service.

New large magnitude earthquake 6.8 on the Richter scale noted in the state Michoacán of Mexico today, announced the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

THE earthquake had a focal depth of 80 kilometers, according to the same source. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the state of Michoacán, in western Mexico, at a distance of 81 kilometers from the city of Coalcomán, the EMSC said.

Residents of the capital, Mexico City, ran out of their homes as an earthquake alert sounded.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said on Twitter soon after that there were no initial reports of damage in the city.

A tsunami warning has also been issued, as announced by the US Warning Center.

It is recalled that the great earthquake of 7.6 degrees on Monday occurred in the same area, as a result of which two people lost their lives and 200 buildings were damaged.
