Marathon: New world record at 2:01:09 by Kenyan Kipchoge

Regarded as the greatest marathoner of all time, Kipchoge covered the first half of the course in less than an hour

THE Eliud Kipchoge, bettered his own world record in Marathonas well as in the race that ended in Berlincovered the 42,195 meters of the route, in two hours, one minute and nine seconds.

The 37-year-old Kenyan, who is a two-time Olympic champion, had also set the previous record in the race in the German capital, where the course is particularly flat, on September 16, 2018 (2:01.39).

Considered as o top marathon runner of all time, Kipchoge, covered the first half of the course in less than an hour (59 minutes and 51 seconds), but ultimately did not “get off” the two hours, finishing near the Brandenburg Gate.

Kipchoge is the only runner to have achieved this feat in 2019 in Vienna, during a race organized especially for him, but the performance (1 hour, 59 minutes and 41 seconds) was not officially recognized because he was help 41 “hares”.

Before the Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge estimated that “I’m not going to run under two hours in Berlin, I’m just going to have a good race.”
